Melinda Duval is a writer from Loraine, Ohio. She grew up in a normal, middle class family. Always scribbling, when she got to college she found an instructor who encouraged her and she majored in writing. Seven years after graduating, having published short stories in dozens of magazines, she got an agent and a book deal. Her first book, "History," was met with critical and reasonable financial success and now she's working on the second collection of stories. She's currently single and while she has an apartment in New York, she travels constantly. |

Her parents, who adopted her as an infant, were Liberal, open and encouraging, which was a welcome contrast to the fairly conservative area they lived in. At the age of 18, she left home to go to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. To support herself, she waited tables. And then, everything changed. |
